Recap

This week we welcomed speakers Cody, Christina, and Patrick with Bluhen Botanicals. Bluhen Botanticals is a hemp biomass processing and extraction company headquartered in Knoxville. They utilize farming and distribution partners across the United States to produce high quality hemp crops. They have a state-of-the-art hemp research facility and work with field experts to produce custom formulations for their own blend of boutique wellness products.

Cody gave a very educational presentation of the hemp industry, the science behind it, extraction methods commonly used, the benefits of using CBD oil, and what sets their product apart from others on the market. Although hemp crops can be used for many different things such as ropes, plastics, textiles, grains, and livestock feed, their product is cultivated specifically to produce CBD salves, tinctures and oils.

CBD products can produce great benefits including better sleep, lower anxiety, and a reduction in inflammation and pain. However, you should be aware if using a full spectrum product, that you will not pass a drug test if that is a concern. For that, they offer a T-free product in that case that is extracted differently.

Due to recent legislation changes that now allow the growth of hemp crops, there are now many CBD companies and products to choose from. It’s such a booming business that there was 1100% growth in Tennessee alone just last year! But he warned that not all products are created equally. If you choose to try the product, you should look for a good reputable company that utilizes premium extraction methods to produce a product clearly labeled with the correct tincture mg content on the bottle as advertised. For more information, you can visit their store and café in the Old City or online at bluehenbotanicals.com.

Announcements

Statements have been sent out for Q3 Rotary Dues. If you did not receive this via email, please let Jerry or Michael know. They are due this week. Please be sure that you have paid them or made arrangements with Michael.

Tom is collecting our Rotarian magazines again for the Interact Club. Please kindly donate yours after you are finished with it since the Interact and Rotaract Clubs do not get them and may enjoy reading them.

If you did not get a Rotary mug on Ron’s first day as Club President, please let him know and he will get you one.

Our first Rotary Social Event of the year has been tentatively planned for Friday, September 6th at 6 pm. It will be held at the Eslinger house in Clinton. He has a pool and nice patio area to host a fall social! If you and/or your guest can make it, please give Bill a head count. They can always use more help on the social committee as well if you are interested in joining!

Ron would like to begin something new this year to help us get to know each other better. He would like for everyone to give a one to two-minute speech about yourself (who you are, what business you’re with and what you do there). You can select your week and let Ron know which one you would like.

Club Business

Ron mentioned a few areas that we need everyone’s help with this year.

  • Membership AND RETENTION – Instead of only focusing on adding new members, he would like to also focus on retaining the ones we have now. However, that being said, the goal is still to add 3 new members for the year.
  • Speaker Committee – Ronnie needs assistance recruiting speakers. If you know of someone that would like to speak or may be of interest, please let him know.
  • Public Relations Committee – We need help with social media! If one or two people in the club would be interested in helping with this, especially our Facebook page posting, please let Ron or Leighann know. Also, please make sure you ‘like’ our FB page too! You will find the button at the top of this newsletter every week that takes you right to it.
  • Treasury - It would greatly help Michael and Jerry if everyone would kindly pay their dues on time so they don’t have to keep asking. The quarterly dues statement went out this week from Jerry, so please look for that and pay it in a timely manner.
  • Social Committee – We are looking for a few people to help Bill on this committee. We would like to host a Fall Fling and Spring Fling where we do something fun together outside of regular meetings. If you would be interested in helping, please see Bill or Ron.

A sign-up sheet is attached to this newsletter. If you would be interested in helping on one of these committees, it would be greatly appreciated!
