Recap

This week we welcomed Don’s friend, Greg Marlow. Greg is a singer, songwriter, musician, actor, writer and most importantly, a walking miracle. He was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma cancer eight years ago, at which time he was given only six months to live. They performed surgery on him at Vanderbilt and removed a mass from his hip the size of a basketball and the surrounding muscles that it had grown into. They left it open at the time without doing skin grafts since they didn’t expect him to survive long after. He spent 4 days with leaches attached to his hip to encourage blood flow into that area and he couldn’t move for 23 consecutive days except for turning his head. Then, they transported him back home to be comfortable. Two weeks passed, and Greg miraculously began to heal much to the doctor’s surprise! That was now 8 years ago, and he is doing great! It took him a year to learn to walk again with his new hip structure, but he was determined to beat this and watch his 12-year-old son grow up.

Greg knows he only survived because of his unwavering faith and uncanny ability to laugh his way through it. He referenced Nehemiah 8:10 ‘The joy of the Lord is my strength’. He whole-heartedly believes that we must laugh and hold on to our joy because when we’re robbed of our joy, we become weak and lose our will. He knows that God gave him the gift of being able to laugh at the strangest things because he was able to gain joy in his humor through hard times. God is continuing to use Greg as he visits groups to share his testimony of how God healed him. He continues to sing in a bluegrass gospel group, New Harvest. He has also released two books ‘My Version of the Truth’ and ‘You’re Not Going to Believe this, but…’. His videos can be seen on YouTube as well. He left us with a few encouraging thoughts to not believe all the bad things you get told and don’t give up. Live each day like it’s your last one. And remember there’s strength in our joy that comes from the Lord!

CITY of CLINTON PRESS RELEASE – TDOT LEWALLEN BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT

Blalock Construction has notified the City of Clinton that Riverside Drive will be closed between South Seivers Blvd. (State Route 61) and Meadowbrook Street, beginning early Tuesday morning September 18, 2018. For the next three years, motorists trying to reach the Riverside/Riverbend areas will need to use one of four alternate routes: Meadowbrook Street, Willow Street, Elm Street, or Redbud Drive.

Attempting to make a left turn onto any of these four streets may present a challenge during afternoon hours, when school and work traffic is at its peak. To help accommodate this, the City of Clinton is currently upgrading the traffic signal at Willow Street/Sunset Road. It is being reconfigured to provide a protected left turn arrow in each direction. While we expect this will help, we recommend that when possible, motorists create a route that will allow them to make a right turn when approaching Redbud Drive, Elm Street, Willow Street, or Meadowbrook Street. Riverside Drive closure will also shut down the boat launch ramp beneath the Lewallen Bridge, as well as a section of the Lakefront Park walking trail.

Rotaract and Interact New

Last Saturday, Rotaract and Interact members completed an annual apple project and picked over 350 pounds of apples at the Alex Haley Farm. These apples were donated to elderly homebound patients through Clinch River Home Health and others taken to feed the homeless in our area!
