Recap

This week we had Melissa Charles speak to us about the Kincaid House in Clinton. She bought the home within the last few years to reopen it as a premiere local event venue. She has since done additions and renovations to the property. Melissa began renting the home this past spring for weddings, events, fundraisers and parties. If you have not had the opportunity to see it for yourself, you need to! It is absolutely stunning!

Melissa talked about the history of the home and owners as well. It was originally built for the Carl S. Kincaid family in 1932. It is a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 3,800 square foot home that was originally situated on 20 acres. Although now, the dutch colonial style home sits on 4.2 acres. The public garden area was home to an abundance of flowers, trees and plants and was an open area for the public to visit and picnic. Mr. Kincaid imported English boxwoods, while Mrs. Kincaid was fond of irises. The Kincaid family owned and operated Magnet Mills in Clinton, which was a hosiery mill at the time. The stone walls, gazebo and paths are constructed from stone from Norris Dam. It has several outside areas to host and showcase events, along with private areas on the main floor for smaller events and upstairs areas for wedding party preparation. Melissa said that many years ago, during prohibition, they would keep their liquor stored in the tunnel underneath the home that is still there to this day. The local gentlemen would play cards in the upstairs of the gazebo. This gentlemen's meeting later became the beginning of the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce. Melissa told many details about the rich history of the home that were very interesting to hear. She has truly made the home into a local hidden jewel filled with character! We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful event venue available right in our own backyards!

Membership

I apologize that I do not have the visitor listing from Tuesday. I was absent this week and no notes were taken to record visitor's names. We will have these available for you next week. But nonetheless, we appreciate our visitors and were glad to have them!
