Recap

This week we welcomed speaker, Ernie Newberry to the club. He is originally from Mattoon, Illinois but has lived in East Tennessee for many years. He is a retired professional photographer of 44 years by trade. Years ago, he wanted to join the military as a photographer, but there were no open positions for photographers at that time. As luck would have it, years later his son joined the military and was stationed on the USS Ronald Reagan. Hence, he was invited to sail on a Tiger Cruise aboard the aircraft carrier with his son for a 4-day trip. The Tiger Cruise is a special navy cruise for family and friends that departs from Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and travels to San Diego, California. They are able to take an extended tour of the ship and observe what Navy personnel and sailors do on a day-to-day basis. Ernie talked in greater detail about this experience of a lifetime. After all these years, he was finally able to put his seasoned photography skills to use in a military setting! We appreciate him coming to share his experience with everyone!

We were all members this week with no guests. However, we officially welcomed in all of our recent new members! These include:

Items of Interest

The date for the Children’s Christmas Party has been set for December 12th. An extra $75 should be included in your dues to go toward this. Please remember to save your receipts to be reimbursed for your expenses once you buy for your child. Once again, PLEASE remember to add an additional $75 to regular Q4 dues.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jonathan Sharp and his family. Sadly, they said goodbye to his 20-year old brother this week who passed away due to a terrible accident. Main Street Baptist Church was in charge of the arrangements. They have set up a Go Fund Me page to help with funeral expenses and to help his wife and baby. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our 2nd Annual Community Breakfast has been scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, November 21st at 8:00 a.m (Please note the time has changed) in the big meeting room of the Community Center. We will host renowned speaker Hallerin Hilton Hill again. This is open to the public and free to attend. Thank you to all the businesses and individuals that have signed up to be meal sponsors for the event! If you would still like to sponsor the event and have not signed up yet, it is $125 to help pay for breakfast. Your name and/or business will be featured on banners as a sponsor. A letter is attached that you may post and share to help promote the event.
It is once again time for the Community Action Coat Drive! We are accepting new and gently used coat donations in all sizes to help furnish coats for those that don’t have the money to buy one otherwise. You may either drop your donations off at Fox Toyota or bring them to Rotary with you on Tuesdays. The Community Center has generously donated about 100-150 coats already that were left over from unclaimed lost and found items. In the past, our club has collected about 5,000 coats each year for this. We hope this year will be no different! Please see ET with any questions.
It is time to sign up for Salvation Army bell ringing! Please let John Jordan know if you are interested in participating.
ASAP of Anderson County is camping on the steps of the Anderson County Courthouse and needs your help! They are raising money to combat the growing substance abuse problem in our community. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
We are still in dire need of a host home for the Rotary Exchange Student for 6 weeks beginning in mid-November. If you are able to help in any way, please see Tom. As of right now, he has no where to live next after his current exchange home stay is up in the next few weeks.
